Most new users of Quantrix quickly learn how to link one category in a matrix to another. But why is this a powerful construct in this modeling tool? There’s far more to the technique of moving category tiles between matrices. Where the power comes into play is with formula writing, as I show in this brief video.
Modeler’s Notes: The central idea of category linking is that formula writing is much easier than, say, Excel. Formula readability is also greatly enhanced.
I glossed over configuring the year category in the second matrix. The main idea to remember is that the time dimension and/or items are not required in the formulas themselves because Quantrix automatically links any time dimension within a model.
