I’m not embarrassed to say I made my fair share of mistakes while learning Quantrix from the ground up. I believe that to be normal, as new students are bringing a two-dimensional spreadsheet mindset to this tool.
For instance, one would think year-over-year math would be simple in Quantrix. It is, once you learn the concept behind recursion in Quantrix. In this video, I show you the secret to year-over-year math and common errors new users make when attempting these calculations.
Modeler Notes: Remember, you can use a tilde to force a calculation when no previous value exists, as in the case I showed for 2020. This tells Quantrix to assume a value of zero prior to the first item of a category to which recursion is being applied.
Also, remember that recurrence formulae apply only to categories, not to items. But you can append an item to a category in recurrence equations.
